How the JOMON GYOMO Project aims to contribute to the SDGs:
Goal 4: Education
This project works with education providers in Aomori Prefecture and further afield to run modelling activities based on Jomon culture. We hope that taking part in these self-directed, interactive activities will help children foster a rich sensibility and creativity, and nurture the ability to survive in unpredictable times.
Goal 12: Responsible consumption and production
We will use the plant fibre ramie to make a giant fishing net together. In autumn of 2021 we will use the dragnet to fish in Mutsu Bay and explore how people fished in Jomon times. We will also implement dietary education to foster a sense of gratitude for the blessings of nature. We will learn about the functionality and beauty of plant fibres, which are not often unearthed in digs. By deepening understanding of the Jomon culture, in which people coexisted with nature for around ten thousand years, we will promote an increased awareness of the possibilities of a sustainable society, and change behaviours.
Goal 15: Life on land
In autumn of 2022 we plan to redesign the giant fishing net and exhibit it at Aomori Museum of Art. We will also hold a workshop to make “seed paper,” which will be attached to the fishing net artwork. Ultimately, we plan to bury it so that the seeds germinate and grow. By making our immediate environment greener, we aim to support the carbon cycle for the next generation.

「目標4：教育」
本事業は青森県を中心に教育現場と連携し、縄文文化をテーマにした造形活動を展開。子どもたちが主体的・対話的に取り組むことにより、豊かな感性や創造性を涵養し、予測困難な時代を生き抜く力を育むことをめざす。
「目標12：持続可能な消費と生産」
植物繊維の苧麻（チョマ）を素材として巨大漁網を共働制作。2021年秋に陸奥湾で地引網を実施し当時の漁労の検証を行うとともに、自然の恵みに対して感謝の念を育む食育を行う。遺跡の中でも出土されにくい植物繊維の造形から、機能性の高さと美しさを学ぶ。自然と共生しながら約1万年間続いた縄文文化の理解を深め、持続可能な社会の実現に向けた意識の啓発と行動の変容を促す。
「目標15：陸上資源」
2022年秋に巨大漁網をリデザインし、青森県立美術館に展示予定。さらに「種子を漉き込んだシードペーパー」を制作するワークショップを行い、漁網作品に取り付ける。最終的に土に埋めて発芽させ、植栽となる予定。身近な生活環境の緑化によって次世代の炭素循環への一助となることをめざす。
