By having scientists share the findings of their scientific marine surveys, whilst at the same time having artists on board the survey boats with them, sharing what they experience from an artistic perspective, the project aims to transform people’s daily lives and make their actions more consistently aware of the global picture.
This survey involves going to sea with marine scientists and actually collecting microplastics. The infinitesimal world that exists in the vast oceans, the Earth’s place in the universe, the effect that humans’ everyday lives are having on the oceans: none of these are visible to the eye, but science and art are on the same vector of wanting to make the invisible visible.
When humans encountered the unknown (before science branched off from art), they would imagine what they couldn’t see, physically reacting to that image and affecting their surroundings. The TARA JAMBIO ART project believes that this is an effective way of making progress.
科学者が科学の視点で海洋を調査し人々にその実態を発信することと、アーチストが科学者と同じ海洋探査船に乗船し芸術的視点で体感したことを同時に発信していくことにより、人々の日常が、より継続的に地球的規模を意識した行動に変容することを目的としたプロジェクト。
今回の調査では海洋科学者と共に実際の海洋の現場でマイクロプラスチックの採集を行います。広大な海の中の極小の世界、宇宙の中の地球という存在、人間の日常の生活の積み重ねが海に及ぼす影響、どれも目に見える世界ではありませんが、見えないものを可視化したいという欲求のベクトルは科学も芸術も同じです。
人類が未知なものに対して挑む際には（科学が芸術から分化する以前の）見えないものを脳内でイメージしている状態で身体的に反応し、周囲に作用していくことが、ことを進める上では有効であると「TARA JAMBIOARTプロジェクト」は考えています。
